Munsell Windows

At the moment I have been focusing and documenting pictures of the environment outside my window over the last few weeks. I have taken account the time, as well as angle the photos are taken at. The photos captured are put into a book that mainly focuses on the different temperatures levels through each of the pics warm/neutral/cool. Along with the pictures there is some language along with it (some personal text messages from me, as well as poetry). As far as the book format, it's broken down by color but a piece of text is placed wherever the color channel / hue is changed so it shows the different chapters of the book. The next thing I want to do is to take the exact format of the first book and make a different book with the exact same photos but they're edited, and colored and changed in a way where it shows a different story in a way.

Another current thought with the working with the pictures that are getting edited is that I could take the original and edited and combine both versions and make collages or just make posters with some of the source text messages and poetry.

Color Collages of Media

For my senior thesis, I want to explore the science and psychology of color, as well as its uses across different mediums. I want to understand how color affects one’s emotions. I am interested in color theory since if we didn’t have the colors we have and were just in a black and white world, everything would just be plain, boring, and depressing.

The other method of color I want to explore is the theory of color where the science and art of using color. It explains how humans perceive color; and the visual effects of how colors mix, match or contrast with each other. Color theory also involves the messages colors communicate; and the methods used to replicate color.

I want to research/read The Secret Life of Color. This gets into the use of color across history. I also want to research color theory. Some books I want to read, Color Theory: An essential guide to color-from basic principles to practical applications. There are some artists like Josef Albers that do work based around color theory. Other artists I want to look at are Ellsworth Kelly, Hans Hoffman, Stuart Davis, Nancy Spero, and Howardena Pindell, who does collage works with different mediums of color with different art methods. I will also look at how designers have done projects with color.

The Munsell Color System is a color space that organizes colors by hue, chroma, and value. This is something I can use as a reference. The work I want to create is mostly 2D work in the field with collage works, and maybe some paintings, printmaking.
